Pantone’s 2019 Color of the Year—Plus 10 Rugs to Bring It Into Your Home

The pigment experts over at Pantone have put their heads together and their fortune-telling skills to work to name the MVP color of the upcoming year. And apparently, 2019 is all about bright, sunny “Living Coral”, described as “an animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge.” A welcome change to 2018’s more sober, serious “Ultra Violet”, the news was announced last week at Miami’s Art Basel.

The choice highlights a more eco-conscious set of priorities as we turn over a new leaf for 2019, referencing the vital role of coral reefs in protecting our ecosystems, the importance of social connection and a sense of optimism and positivity. “Color enhances and influences the way we experience life,” says Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute. “As a shade that affirms life through a dual role of energizing and nourishing, PANTONE 16-1546 Living Coral reinforces how colors can embody our collective experience and reflect what is taking place in our global culture at a moment in time.”

Naturally, the media world is already taking notes, turning out tips for how to adopt it in your house, round-ups of top products that fit any budget, even ways to incorporate the shade in your wedding. But what better way to welcome this new hue into your home than with a rug that ties it all together? Here are our favorite Pantone-inspired carpets for 2019:
