The best part? Anyone can join in on the fireside vibes. All it takes is a few key decor accents and a dedicated space for you to curl up in. So dim the lights, get in your comfiest loungewear and grab a good book because it’s time to get hygge with it.

Find Your Nook
A nook—or “hyggekrog”—to cuddle up in is a necessary element in any hygge-fied home. Whether it’s a favorite lounger, a window seat or a pile of pillows in the middle of your living room, choose a favorite spot around your home where you can carve out some peace and quiet.

Count on Candlelight
Nothing ruins a cosy atmosphere like harsh lighting. Gather some candles from around the house and illuminate your space the old-timey way. Just make sure they’re not all scented. A bit of vanilla bean sounds lovely; pumpkin-spice-cedar-lavender-berry-eucalyptus-latte? Not so much.

Play with Texture
Think all things soft, from faux fur to chunky knits, when building your winter sanctuary. Add accents like textured pillows, a luxe Persian rug or a versatile sheepskin—extra chic draped over a couch—to create depth and amp up the atmosphere.

Warm Up to Warm Colors
Now’s not the time for neons or pastels. Go for deep hues—forest green, burnt orange, navy blue, maroon—when accenting with throw pillows, blankets and accessories.

Pile on the Blankets
How could one possibly get comfy without something soft to snuggle up with? Wrap yourself up in a plush blanket—wool, chenille, fleece, cotton—and pile up some extras for friends and family. Because hygge alone is great, but hygge with loved ones? Even better.
